Nikah (Marriage) Services at ICBG

Part A: Prerequisites Before Processing the Marriage
To ensure that a marriage is conducted according to Islamic principles, the following conditions must be met:
1. Consent of the Groom and Bride
Both the groom and bride must freely and willingly agree to the marriage without any form of coercion or pressure.
2. Wali (Guardian) of the Bride
  • The Wali is a male relative of the bride who has the authority to grant permission for the marriage.
  • Typically, the Wali is the bride’s father, but in some cases, another male relative may act in this role.
  • The Wali must be a Muslim, unless the bride is from the People of the Book (i.e., Jews or Christians).
3. Witnesses
  • The presence of witnesses is required for the Nikah ceremony.
  • The witnesses should be upright Muslim individuals and may be arranged in the following combinations:
    • Two men, or
    • One man and two women, or
    • Four women.
  • The witnesses must be familiar with the couple and one witness should be from the groom’s side, while the other witness should be from the bride’s side.
4. Mahr (Dower)
  • A Mahr is a valuable gift that the groom must offer to the bride, signifying his commitment to the marriage.
  • The Mahr can be monetary, jewelry, or any item of value, as agreed upon by the couple.
  • Both the groom and bride should mutually agree on the amount and the method of payment for the Mahr.
