The Islamic Center of Bowling Green (ICBG) provides cemetery services to our community. Below are the details regarding the services and procedures related to the burial and funeral arrangements at our cemetery.

Funeral Home Services
The ICBG cemetery provides essential services for our members, including the following:
  • Casket
  • Kafan (shroud)
  • Grave
These services ensure that the deceased is handled with the utmost respect and according to Islamic traditions.
Funeral Home Services Include:
  • Body Transfer: Transporting the body from the hospital to the funeral home.
  • Use of Bathing Facilities: The funeral home provides facilities for washing the body in preparation for burial.
  • Preparation of the Body: This includes the washing of the body and the shrouding in Kafan.
  • Casket: A casket will be provided for the deceased.
  • Funeral Van/Car: A vehicle for transporting the deceased to the cemetery for burial.
General Cemetery Procedures
  • Grave Site Reservations: Grave sites are not available for reservation. The only available grave is the one directly adjacent to an existing grave, as outlined in the cemetery’s master plan.
  • Grave Markers: The only structure allowed atop a grave is a simple marker that includes the name and the dates of birth and death of the deceased.

1. How is the body recovered from the hospital?
When the body is ready to be released from the hospital, the funeral home should be authorized by the family to recover it and transport it to the funeral home.

2. Where should the body be washed?
The body should be washed at the funeral home of your choice. Afterward, it will be transported to ICBG for the funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah).

3. Which funeral home should we use?
The ICBG has established arrangements with several funeral homes in Bowling Green, KY, to provide special services, such as space for bathing and preparing the body. You may choose another funeral home; however, the family will assume full responsibility for the services provided and the processes followed. A list of recommended funeral homes and their contact information will be available soon.

4. Who is responsible for paying the funeral home?
The family of the deceased is responsible for paying all charges to the funeral home. Payment is due in full on the day services are rendered.

5. Where do I arrange for Salat al-Janazah?
Salat al-Janazah can be arranged at the ICBG Masjid. If the body is brought to the Masjid, the funeral prayer will take place after the regular prayers, ensuring the body is buried before Maghrib.

6. How do I pay for the grave digging?
The family of the deceased is also responsible for paying the full charges of the grave digger. Payment should be made on the day the services are rendered.

7. How do I mark the grave?
The grave marker should contain a minimum of the deceased’s name, date of birth, and date of death.
